The Federal Government has warned that it may reconsider its diplomatic and policy options if attacks targeting Nigerians in some foreign countries continue to rise.

Speaking on growing concerns over xenophobic incidents involving Nigerians abroad, Bianca Ojukwu said the government is closely monitoring developments and remains committed to protecting the rights and welfare of Nigerian citizens wherever they reside.

Ojukwu expressed concern over reports of harassment, discrimination, and violent attacks against Nigerians, stressing that such actions are unacceptable and contrary to international norms governing the treatment of foreign nationals. She noted that the government has been engaging relevant authorities through diplomatic channels to address the issue.

According to the minister, while Nigeria prefers dialogue and constructive engagement, the country may be compelled to review its options if adequate measures are not taken to guarantee the safety of Nigerians abroad. She emphasized that the protection of citizens remains a top priority of the government.

The remarks come amid renewed concerns over xenophobic attacks and anti-immigrant sentiments in some countries, which have affected Nigerians living and working overseas. The government has urged affected citizens to remain law-abiding and report incidents to Nigerian diplomatic missions for assistance
