The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 12, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day celebration. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. 


According to the government, June 12 remains a significant date in Nigeria’s democratic history, honoring the sacrifices, resilience, and commitment of Nigerians who fought for democratic governance. 


The Minister congratulated Nigerians on the occasion and urged citizens to continue supporting democratic institutions while promoting national unity, peace, and responsible civic engagement.
