The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the arrest of a man accused of supplying ammunition and logistics to bandits, kidnappers, and terrorist groups operating in parts of northern Nigeria.
Speaking in Abuja, FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi said the suspect had been on the command’s wanted list since 2023 and was arrested during an intelligence-led operation along the Abuja–Kaduna highway on June 2.
According to the police, officers recovered:
- 81 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition
- 100 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition for a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG)
Police also arrested the suspect’s sister, who investigators allege was involved in the movement of ammunition. Authorities said she is married to another wanted bandit leader who is currently at large.
Preliminary investigations reportedly linked the suspects to a network supplying weapons and logistics to criminal groups operating in Kaduna State, Niger State, and border communities around the FCT.
The police said investigations are ongoing and that efforts are being intensified to identify and arrest other members of the network. Commissioner Sanusi urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.
