Afrobeats superstar Davido has urged Nigerians to speak out against the country’s worsening insecurity, criticizing fellow musician Dauda Kahutu Rarara for condemning his recent efforts to draw international attention to the plight of abducted schoolchildren.

The controversy began after Davido performed at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert in Los Angeles wearing a customized jacket bearing the names of more than 40 pupils and teachers abducted in Oyo State. The jacket also carried the message, “Bring Them Home,” in a bid to spotlight the kidnapping crisis in Nigeria.

Rarara criticized the move, describing it as harmful to Nigeria’s image and alleging that insecurity was being politicized. He questioned why sensitive security issues should be showcased on a global stage, arguing that such actions could damage the country’s reputation.

Responding via social media, Davido insisted that patriotism requires citizens to speak up when lives are at risk. He argued that remaining silent about terrorism, banditry, and kidnappings only allows the problems to persist. The singer also accused some public figures of placing politics and personal interests above the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

Davido further urged Nigerians to prioritize truth, compassion, and national interest, maintaining that drawing attention to insecurity should not be viewed as an attack on the country but rather as a call for action and accountability.

The exchange has sparked widespread debate online, with some Nigerians supporting Davido’s stance on civic responsibility and others backing Rarara’s view that criticism of insecurity should be handled more cautiously
