A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed an application by former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, seeking to set aside an arrest warrant issued against her in connection with an alleged $1.3 million fraud case.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo, who held that the court could not vacate the warrant under the circumstances presented by the former minister’s legal team. The judge maintained that due legal procedures must be followed before any reconsideration of the warrant could be entertained. Reports indicate that the case stems from allegations involving the disbursement and management of public funds during Farouq’s tenure as minister.

Farouq’s counsel had argued that the arrest warrant was improperly obtained and urged the court to revoke it. However, the court rejected the request and directed that proceedings continue in line with the law.

The case was instituted by a private claimant who accused the former minister and others of involvement in the alleged misappropriation of approximately $1.3 million. Farouq has denied wrongdoing and continues to challenge the allegations through legal channels.

The development adds to ongoing scrutiny of activities linked to the former humanitarian affairs ministry, which has been the subject of multiple investigations in recent years. The matter is expected to return to court for further proceedings as the legal battle continues.
