The Borno State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers has joined nationwide solidarity rallies and protests condemning the increasing wave of school abductions across Nigeria and demanding the immediate rescue of kidnapped pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
The union said the recent kidnappings of students and teachers highlight the growing insecurity facing educational institutions and threaten access to education, particularly in vulnerable communities. Teachers participating in the rally carried placards calling on authorities to strengthen school security and ensure the safe return of all abducted victims.
Speaking during the demonstration, NUT leaders expressed concern that repeated attacks on schools could discourage enrolment, increase fear among parents and educators, and undermine efforts to improve education across the country.
The Borno chapter stated that it was standing in solidarity with affected families, teachers, and students in Oyo State, where dozens of pupils and educators were reportedly abducted by armed men. The union urged security agencies to intensify rescue operations and bring those responsible to justice.
The rallies form part of broader nationwide actions organized by teachers’ unions, student groups, and civil society organizations seeking stronger government action against kidnappings and attacks on schools.
NUT officials also called for improved funding of school security initiatives, better protection for teachers working in rural areas, and the full implementation of measures designed to keep schools safe from attacks.
The demonstrations come amid growing public concern over insecurity in several parts of Nigeria and renewed demands for comprehensive reforms to protect students, teachers, and educational facilities nationwide.
