Nigerian singer BNXN (Daniel Benson) has sparked reactions after claiming that living in Lagos is more expensive than living in the United States, following his recent relocation abroad.
Speaking during a livestream on TikTok, the Afrobeats star said that aside from rent and basic bills, life in the US feels more structured and less stressful compared to Lagos. He also noted that he no longer experiences the constant street pressure and unsolicited requests for money that are common in Lagos.
BNXN specifically compared costs in Lagos and Los Angeles, stating that while his rent in the US is high, everyday expenses in Los Angeles are generally more manageable than what he experienced in Lagos.
He said:
“Lagos is super expensive. It is more expensive than Los Angeles. Aside from housing, every other thing in LA is not expensive.”
The singer’s comments have triggered online debate, with many Nigerians agreeing that the cost of living in Lagos has risen sharply due to inflation, rent hikes, and economic pressure, while others argue that expenses depend heavily on lifestyle and income level.
BNXN’s remarks add to ongoing conversations about Nigeria’s rising living costs, especially in major cities like Lagos, where rent, transportation, and daily essentials have become increasingly expensive.
