At least 20 people have been killed after suspected armed bandits launched a fresh attack on a community in Kebbi State, northwestern Nigeria, in what adds to a growing wave of violence across the region.

Security sources and local residents said the attackers invaded the community late in the night, shooting sporadically and forcing villagers to flee into nearby bushes for safety. Several houses were also reportedly set ablaze during the raid.

The incident is part of the ongoing insecurity affecting Nigeria’s north-west, where armed groups commonly referred to as “bandits” carry out killings, kidnappings, and cattle rustling across rural communities. Banditry has remained one of the country’s most persistent security challenges despite military operations in affected states.

Authorities have yet to confirm the full casualty figure, but emergency response teams and security operatives have been deployed to the area for search, rescue, and possible pursuit of the attackers.

Kebbi State has experienced repeated attacks in recent months, with residents calling for stronger security presence and faster military response to prevent further loss of lives.

The latest killings come amid renewed concerns over the spread of violence across Nigeria’s north-west, where hundreds have been killed or abducted in similar raids over the past year.
