Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army have rescued five kidnapped victims in Kogi State after sustained military pressure forced terrorists to abandon their captives and flee into nearby forests.

The operation took place during ongoing counter-terrorism missions in the state, where troops intensified ground patrols and offensive actions aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts.

According to a statement from the Army, the victims were found after the kidnappers came under heavy military pursuit and escaped, leaving them behind. Preliminary findings suggest the victims had already been freed by the abductors before troops reached the location.

The rescued persons have since been secured and are receiving support from security agencies, while troops continue clearance operations in surrounding forest areas to track down the fleeing suspects.

The Nigerian Army said the operation is part of wider efforts to curb kidnapping and banditry in Kogi and neighbouring states, where security forces have recently increased patrols and raids on criminal enclaves.
