Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Akwa Ibom State has commended Governor Umo Eno for clearing outstanding salary arrears owed to local government workers and improving their welfare across the state.

The union said the governor’s intervention has brought relief to workers who had previously suffered delays in salary payments, gratuities, and other entitlements, describing the development as a major boost to morale in the local government system.

According to NULGE leadership, the payment of arrears and improved attention to workers’ welfare reflect the administration’s commitment to strengthening grassroots governance and restoring confidence in local government administration. The union noted that the governor’s actions have helped resolve long-standing issues affecting staff across several local councils.

The commendation comes amid reports that the state government has also made provisions for the payment of gratuities and leave grants owed to retirees and serving workers, as part of broader efforts to stabilise labour relations in the state.

NULGE urged the government to sustain the reforms, stressing that consistent payment of salaries and entitlements would further improve productivity and reduce industrial disputes within the local government system.
