The Abia State Government has suspended the Clerk of the Abia State House of Assembly, John Pedro Irokansi, over allegations of misconduct. The suspension was conveyed in an official letter signed by the state’s Head of Service, Benson Ojeikere.
Following the suspension, the government appointed Promise Onwukwe, a Deputy Director in the Legislative Department of the House of Assembly, as Acting Clerk with immediate effect.
Authorities did not disclose the specific nature of the alleged misconduct. However, the government stated that the appointment of the Acting Clerk would remain in force pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.
Onwukwe was directed to assume full administrative responsibility for the Clerk’s office and ensure the protection of all government property, official records, and documents under his custody.
Irokansi is a veteran civil servant who has served as Clerk of the Abia State House of Assembly for approximately 16 years, working under three different state administrations.
The Abia State Government has not announced when the investigation will be concluded, but officials indicated that further decisions will depend on the findings of the probe.
