The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has affirmed former Cross River State governor, Donald Duke, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, while also clearing a total of about 420 other candidates to contest various elective positions across the country.

The decision was reached after the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) reviewed and adopted the report of its Primaries Appeal Committee, which handled disputes arising from the party’s internal primaries.

  • Donald Duke confirmed as PRP presidential flagbearer
  • About 420–421 candidates cleared for different offices nationwide
  • One constituency primary (Tarauni Federal Constituency) was nullified
  • PRP says move reflects commitment to internal democracy and credible elections

Donald Duke, who governed Cross River State from 1999 to 2007, is a veteran Nigerian politician who has previously contested for the presidency under other platforms, including the SDP in 2019.

The PRP, one of Nigeria’s older opposition parties, says it is positioning itself for stronger participation in the 2027 general elections, with candidates spread across presidential, legislative, and state-level races.
