Former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Kwankwaso has explained why he decided to align politically with Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Kwankwaso said he and northern political leaders carefully assessed possible allies before concluding that Obi was the most capable person to work with in moving Nigeria forward.

According to him:

Kwankwaso dismissed suggestions that there was a hidden rivalry between both camps, insisting that political partnerships only fail when leaders become “too greedy.” He argued that teamwork and mutual respect are more important than personal ambition.

The former NNPP presidential candidate also said the alliance was not merely about regional politics, but about finding credible leadership capable of addressing insecurity, economic hardship, and national instability.

Kwankwaso and Obi recently joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after leaving the crisis-hit ADC coalition platform. Their alliance has already triggered defections and political realignments across several opposition blocs ahead of 2027.
