Senator Victor Umeh has officially defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing prolonged internal crises and legal battles within his former party.

The defection was formally announced on the floor of the Senate, where Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Umeh’s letter during plenary.

In his letter, Umeh said his decision followed extensive consultations with his family, constituents, and political allies, adding that the situation within the ADC had become untenable.

He specifically pointed to “lingering divisions in leadership and unending litigation” as the major reasons for his exit, noting that the internal disputes had made it difficult for him to continue in the party.

Umeh had earlier confirmed that he resigned from the ADC on May 1, 2026, before formally aligning with the NDC as his new political platform.

Despite the move, the senator maintained that he remains committed to national development, stating that he will continue to serve Nigerians under his new party.

His defection is part of a broader wave of political realignments, as internal crises continue to shake the ADC and push several lawmakers to other parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
