The University of Ilorin branch of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) have joined the ongoing nationwide industrial action declared by their national bodies, shutting down non-academic activities at the institution.
The unions, operating under their Joint Action Committee, directed members to comply fully with the strike in line with the national directive. The action has led to the suspension of administrative and support services across the campus.
Union leaders at UNILORIN said the strike became necessary due to unresolved issues with the Federal Government, including demands over withheld entitlements, welfare concerns, and the implementation of previous agreements. They maintained that members were left with no option after prolonged negotiations failed to produce results.
The strike is expected to affect academic support services, registration processes, and general administrative operations in federal universities across the country as SSANU and NASU push for the government’s response to their demands.
University authorities are yet to issue an official response, but students and staff are already feeling the impact as activities slow down on campus.
