Suspected political thugs reportedly disrupted a constituency briefing organised by Ikenga Ugochinyere in Imo State, sparking tension but with major violence largely averted.

The incident occurred in Ntueke, Ideato South LGA, where the lawmaker’s supporters had gathered for a political engagement and party activity ahead of the 2027 elections.

Eyewitnesses said suspected thugs attempted to infiltrate the crowd and disrupt the event, but were quickly repelled by supporters, allowing the programme to continue.

However, the situation escalated when security operatives allegedly deployed tear gas and force to disperse attendees, with reports of injuries and panic at the venue.

Ugochinyere accused security agencies of attempting to suppress a lawful political gathering, insisting that the event was peaceful and within his constitutional rights.

Despite the disruption, the event proceeded under tension, highlighting growing political friction in the state ahead of future elections.
