The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says security personnel successfully foiled an armed robbery attempt at its Ogbomoso Transmission Substation in Oyo State during the early hours of Sunday.

According to TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the suspected robbers gained unauthorized access into the facility by scaling the perimeter fence near the gate between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

The attackers reportedly moved toward the gate house in an attempt to overpower vigilante personnel on duty, but the security team responded by firing warning shots, forcing the intruders to flee through the same route they used to enter the substation.

TCN said the fleeing suspects abandoned several tools and personal belongings near the fence, while security operatives later discovered traces of blood and footprints believed to belong to the attackers.

A further search conducted after daylight reportedly led to the recovery of an additional bag containing tools suspected to have been intended for the operation.

The company confirmed that no member of staff was injured during the incident and added that the matter has been reported to relevant security agencies for investigation.

TCN also reiterated its commitment to protecting critical power infrastructure nationwide amid growing attacks on electricity facilities across parts of the country.
