Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled separate squads for Nigeria’s upcoming Unity Cup tournament and international friendly matches against Poland and Portugal scheduled for next month.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced the lists on Tuesday, confirming that Chelle selected a blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents as part of preparations for future competitive fixtures, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
According to the squad released by the NFF, several regular stars were included for the high-profile friendly matches against Portugal and Poland, while younger and home-based players were handed opportunities in the Unity Cup competition.
Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Victor Boniface, Wilfred Ndidi, and captain William Troost-Ekong were among the notable names listed for the European friendlies.
For the Unity Cup, Chelle reportedly invited a number of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) players alongside fringe international stars in a move aimed at expanding the national team pool and assessing new options ahead of major tournaments.
The Unity Cup tournament is expected to feature Nigeria alongside Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago in London later this month.
Meanwhile, the international friendlies against Poland and Portugal are expected to provide the Super Eagles with high-level European opposition as the team continues preparations under Chelle, who was appointed head coach earlier this year.
Football analysts say the squad selections suggest Chelle is attempting to balance short-term competitiveness with long-term squad rebuilding, especially after Nigeria’s inconsistent performances in recent international competitions.
The Super Eagles are expected to begin camp preparations in Abuja before travelling for the scheduled fixtures.
