At least nine people were killed and more than 30 others injured after a suspected suicide blast ripped through a busy market in northwestern Pakistan on Tuesday, police said.

The explosion occurred at Naurang Bazaar in the Lakki Marwat district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a region that has witnessed rising militant violence in recent months.

According to local authorities, the blast targeted traffic police officers stationed in the market area. Victims included civilians and at least two policemen, while dozens of injured persons were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Police said the bomb was reportedly attached to a rickshaw or small vehicle parked in the crowded marketplace before detonating during peak activity hours, causing widespread panic and damage to nearby shops.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, though suspicion has fallen on militant factions operating in the region, including the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The group has denied involvement in the latest explosion.

The bombing comes only days after another deadly suicide assault on a police post in nearby Bannu district killed more than a dozen officers, further escalating security concerns along Pakistan’s border regions.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and directed security agencies to intensify counterterrorism operations across affected areas.
