The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has officially announced Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as the host city for the 2026 NWFL Premiership Super Six tournament.
According to the league organisers, the season-ending championship will take place from June 5 to June 14, 2026, marking the first time Rivers State will host the prestigious women’s football playoff competition.
The Super Six tournament will feature the top three teams from Groups A and B of the regular NWFL Premiership season competing in a round-robin format to determine the league champions.
Qualified teams for the tournament include defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, Edo Queens, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and Abia Angels.
NWFL Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi said the choice of Port Harcourt reflects the Rivers State Government’s continuous support for women’s football development in Nigeria.
“The Rivers State Government has consistently demonstrated strong support for women’s football, and we are excited to return with our flagship competition,” Shabi stated.
The matches are expected to be played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, one of the major sporting venues in the South-South region.
The Super Six remains the decisive phase of the NWFL season, with the eventual champions earning Nigeria’s ticket to the WAFU-B qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Women’s football in Nigeria has continued to witness growing competition in recent seasons, with clubs such as Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, and Delta Queens sharing league titles over the past few years.
Football stakeholders believe hosting the competition in Port Harcourt could further boost fan interest and investment in women’s football across the country.
