Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested six suspected members of a notorious “one chance” robbery syndicate allegedly terrorising commuters around the Ago Palace Way and Okota areas of Lagos State.
The suspects were apprehended during a stop-and-search operation carried out by police officers along Ago Palace Way following intelligence reports and heightened surveillance in the area.
According to a statement issued by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the suspects were travelling in a tricycle with registration number AAA 720 QL when security operatives intercepted them. On sighting the police, the suspects reportedly abandoned the tricycle and attempted to flee the scene.
Police identified the suspects as Basiru Rilwan (23), Afeez Akeem (25), Ademola Yekeen (20), Sodipo Oyeyemi (27), Ayomide Gafar, and Fabayo Michael (28).
During the operation, officers recovered a cutlass, a mobile phone, and a dummy pistol allegedly used by the gang to intimidate and rob unsuspecting passengers. Authorities believe the suspects specialised in the popular “one chance” method, where criminals disguise themselves as commercial transport operators or passengers before attacking victims inside vehicles.
The Lagos State Police Command stated that the suspects would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations. Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and ongoing efforts to rid Lagos of criminal gangs.
The latest arrests come amid increasing concerns over “one chance” robberies across parts of Lagos, with residents repeatedly calling for tighter security checks and improved surveillance on commercial transport routes.
