A former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dewan Gabriel, has withdrawn from the Plateau North senatorial race ahead of the 2027 general elections and shifted his attention to contesting a seat in the state House of Assembly.
Reports indicate that Dewan’s decision followed internal political consultations and strategic realignment within his constituency as parties prepare for the 2027 election cycle.
He is said to have opted out of the senatorial ambition in order to seek re-election to the Plateau State House of Assembly, where he previously served as Speaker and currently represents Pankshin North constituency.
Political observers note that the move reflects ongoing shifts among aspirants in Plateau State as politicians reassess their chances ahead of competitive party primaries.
The development comes amid heightened political activity in Plateau State, where several lawmakers and aspirants are repositioning themselves for various elective offices in 2027.
Party stakeholders are expected to continue consultations as aspirants align with emerging zoning arrangements and internal party agreements ahead of the primaries.
