Teachers and education workers in Oyo State have expressed outrage following the abduction of several school staff members and pupils, demanding urgent action from security agencies to secure their release.
The incident reportedly occurred when gunmen attacked a school-related convoy along a road in Oyo State, abducting teachers and students while creating panic among residents and members of the education community.
Following the attack, leaders of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in the state condemned the abduction and called on both the federal and state governments to intensify rescue efforts.
Union representatives reportedly warned that the growing insecurity affecting schools could discourage teachers from carrying out their duties and further threaten the safety of students across the state.
Protesting teachers also urged security agencies to strengthen surveillance around schools and major transport routes frequently used by students and education workers.
The Oyo State government reportedly assured the public that efforts were ongoing to locate the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The incident has renewed concerns about school safety in parts of Nigeria, where kidnappings targeting students, teachers, and travellers have remained a major security challenge in recent years.
Many residents and civil society groups have joined calls for the immediate rescue of the victims, stressing that schools should remain safe environments for learning and teaching.
