The Methodist Church Nigeria in Ogun State has called on the government to strengthen security measures across the country while also condemning rising cybercrime among youths.
The call was made during the church’s synod in Sagamu, where leaders expressed concern over increasing insecurity, particularly kidnapping and banditry in several states. They urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to take more decisive action to protect citizens.
Church leaders also highlighted the economic hardship facing Nigerians, calling for policies that address inflation, poverty and grassroots challenges.
On cybercrime, the synod strongly condemned the activities of so-called “Yahoo boys and girls,” advising that young people should instead be properly educated and engaged in legitimate ventures.
Additionally, the church advocated:
- Increased investment in education and healthcare
- Stronger collaboration between government and faith-based organisations
- Efforts to promote peace, justice and social welfare
The message reflects growing concern from religious and civic groups about both physical insecurity and digital crime, as Nigeria continues to grapple with safety and economic challenges.
