Fuad Atanda-Lawal Odunuga-Bakare has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly following the withdrawal of incumbent lawmaker and actor Desmond Elliot from the party’s primary election.

Odunuga-Bakare secured the ticket during the APC primary held on Wednesday at the Paddington Mini Stadium in Surulere after Elliot announced his withdrawal from the contest, citing intimidation and alleged exclusion of his supporters from the venue.

Party officials declared Odunuga-Bakare winner after the voting process, paving the way for him to represent the APC in the forthcoming Lagos State House of Assembly election for the constituency.

The development marks a significant political shift in Surulere I, where Desmond Elliot had served as lawmaker for multiple terms and remained one of the most recognisable political figures in the constituency.

Following his emergence, Odunuga-Bakare expressed appreciation to party leaders and delegates, promising to strengthen representation and continue supporting grassroots development in Surulere.

Political observers say the outcome reflects ongoing internal realignments within the Lagos APC structure ahead of the next election cycle, especially in areas where influential party figures have recently faced internal opposition.

Elliot’s withdrawal had earlier generated reactions within political circles after he publicly alleged intimidation, coercion, and unfair treatment during the primary process.
