A chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shamsudeen Oladiti, popularly known as “Shamelon,” has been arraigned before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja over the alleged killing of a dispatch rider, Ramon Imam.
The 55-year-old transport union leader was arraigned by the Lagos State Government on a three-count charge bordering on involuntary manslaughter, conspiracy, and attempted murder.
According to the prosecution counsel, Jubril Kareem, the alleged offences were committed between August and September 2025 on Lewis Street, Lagos Island. The court heard that Oladiti and others still at large allegedly conspired before the dispatch rider was attacked.
The prosecution further alleged that the defendant assaulted the victim using fist blows and repeated strikes to the head and face, resulting in injuries that later led to the rider’s death.
Kareem also told the court that Oladiti was linked to another alleged assault case involving one Samuel Omale, who reportedly sustained severe injuries during an earlier incident in August 2025.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him.
Following his plea, defence counsel Olanrewaju Ajanaku informed the court of a pending bail application and requested that correctional authorities provide medical evaluation for the defendant.
Justice Olawale Alebiosu subsequently directed the correctional centre at Kirikiri to confirm Oladiti’s medical condition at a Lagos State Government hospital. The court also noted that an earlier bail application had been rejected due to procedural errors.
The case was adjourned until June 15, 2026, for commencement of trial.
