Popular Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has reportedly died at the age of 40 after a prolonged illness, according to multiple Nigerian media outlets. 


Reports say the actor passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, after battling cancer privately for months. 


His death was confirmed by colleagues and close associates, including Funke Akindele, Bolanle Ninalowo, and Godwin Nnadiekwe, who shared emotional tributes on social media. 


According to reports, Ekubo had stayed away from social media and public appearances since late 2024, sparking concerns among fans over his health. A recent video showing him looking noticeably slimmer had further intensified speculation about his wellbeing. 


Born Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke, the actor rose to fame after emerging first runner-up in the 2010 Mr Nigeria competition before becoming one of Nollywood’s most recognisable faces through films such as Weekend Getaway, In the Cupboard, Bling Lagosians, and A Sunday Affair. 


Tributes have continued pouring in across Nigeria’s entertainment industry as fans and colleagues mourn the actor, remembered for his charisma, humour, and versatility on screen.
