Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted consignments of cocaine and opioids concealed in export packages bound for the United Kingdom and Australia, while also destroying 65,000 kilograms of skunk during major anti-drug operations in Delta State.
According to the agency, the seizures were made during the inspection of outbound shipments at a courier company in Lagos. NDLEA officers discovered 170 grams of cocaine hidden inside the walls of a carton containing clothes destined for Australia.
In another package heading to the United Kingdom, operatives recovered 200 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 1,100 capsules of tramadol, and 100 ampoules of promethazine injection concealed inside a carton.
The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said the interceptions formed part of the agency’s intensified crackdown on international drug trafficking networks using courier and logistics channels to smuggle narcotics abroad.
In Delta State, NDLEA operatives, supported by soldiers, carried out large-scale raids on cannabis farms in Ukwuani and Ughelli North Local Government Areas. During the operations, officials destroyed a total of 65,000 kilograms of skunk cultivated across 26 hectares of farmland.
At Ejeonu village in Ukwuani LGA, the agency destroyed 27,500 kilograms of skunk and recovered additional quantities of the substance. A 52-year-old suspect, identified as Ifeanyichukwu Peter, was later arrested in a follow-up operation.
Similarly, in Orogun village, Ughelli North LGA, operatives destroyed another 37,500 kilograms of skunk planted on 15 hectares of farmland and arrested 30-year-old Godwin Vincent Osadera in connection with the illegal cultivation.
The anti-narcotics agency also recorded other major seizures across the country, including the interception of military-grade ammunition hidden inside sacks of garri in Kaduna State and the arrest of a businessman allegedly producing drug-laced cakes and cookies in Abuja.
The latest operations highlight the NDLEA’s ongoing nationwide campaign against drug trafficking, illicit drug production, and organised criminal activities linked to narcotics distribution.
