The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested three persons living with disabilities over alleged drug trafficking during separate operations in Anambra and Kwara states.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the suspects include 60-year-old Romanus Nwabara, who was arrested in Akpaka Forest, Onitsha, with 250 grams of skunk packaged in retail sachets. Another suspect, Amos Kenneth, 25, was apprehended in Ogbunike, Anambra State, with quantities of Tramadol, Diazepam, Exol-5, and skunk.
In Kwara State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a commercial vehicle along Bode Saadu and discovered 6.3 kilograms of skunk concealed inside a school bag belonging to another suspect identified as Usman Salisu, who is also living with a disability.
The agency disclosed that the arrests formed part of a broader nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse, which also led to the discovery of a ₦5.8 billion cannabis stash house in Lekki, Lagos.
During the Lekki operation, NDLEA operatives reportedly recovered 4,000 parcels of “Loud” cannabis weighing 2,326 kilograms, alongside two Mercedes-Benz buses and packaging materials allegedly used for retail drug distribution.
The anti-narcotics agency added that several other suspects were arrested in Nasarawa, Kogi, and Lagos states during coordinated raids targeting drug trafficking networks and skuchies production centres.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers involved in the operations and urged them to sustain the agency’s anti-drug campaign nationwide.
