The Labour Party has congratulated Nigerian workers on International Workers’ Day, urging authorities to take stronger steps to improve their welfare amid economic hardship.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, described Workers’ Day as deeply significant, noting the party’s long-standing connection to the struggles and aspirations of workers since its formation.
The party acknowledged recent efforts by the government, including the minimum wage increase, but stressed that these measures are not enough given the current inflationary pressures and rising cost of living.
According to the statement, authorities must intensify actions to ensure better wages, improved working conditions and stronger economic support systems for Nigerian workers.
The Labour Party also reaffirmed its commitment to workers’ rights, promising to continue advocating for good governance and fair compensation in line with international labour standards.
