The chairman of Ekiti Local Government Area in Kwara State has ordered the immediate suspension of all night vigil activities across the council area following the recent deadly attack on worshippers in the community.
The directive comes days after armed gunmen attacked a prayer ground in the area, killing three worshippers and abducting several others during a night vigil service.
According to local authorities, the temporary suspension is part of emergency security measures aimed at protecting residents and preventing further attacks by criminal groups operating within the area.
The council chairman urged religious organisations and residents to cooperate fully with security agencies while efforts continue to rescue the abducted victims and restore calm to affected communities.
Security operatives, including the police, local vigilantes, and other community security outfits, have reportedly intensified patrols and surveillance across vulnerable areas following the incident.
Authorities also advised residents to avoid isolated locations at night and promptly report suspicious movements or individuals to security agencies.
Community leaders and residents have continued to express concern over rising insecurity in parts of Kwara State, especially repeated incidents involving kidnapping and attacks on rural settlements and worship centres.
Meanwhile, rescue operations and investigations into the attack remain ongoing as authorities work to track down the gunmen responsible for the assault.
