Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested two elderly men aged 83 and 78 for alleged drug trafficking in Abia and Ekiti states.

According to the agency:

  • An 83-year-old man, Pa John Ofiel, was arrested in Aba, Abia State during a raid based on intelligence.
  • NDLEA officers recovered about 700 grams of skunk (a type of cannabis) packaged for sale from him.

In a separate operation:

  • A 78-year-old man, Ogunjobi Samuel, was arrested at his residence in Ilupeju-Ekiti.
  • Authorities found 350 grams of the same illicit substance in his possession.

What Authorities Said

The NDLEA said both men are part of a wider nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking networks, noting that age will not shield anyone involved in illegal drug activities.

One of the suspects reportedly told investigators he was once a shoemaker before entering the drug trade, highlighting how economic pressures can sometimes push individuals into illegal activities.
