Nigerian music star Davido has sparked reactions online after firing back at a social media critic who questioned his sincerity for criticizing the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The controversy began after Davido lamented the state of insecurity and injustice in Nigeria, admitting that entertainers, including himself, had not spoken out enough on issues affecting ordinary citizens. He wrote that entertainers “need to speak up” because “it’s too much injustice going on.”

A social media user subsequently accused the singer of hypocrisy, claiming he was too close to the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu, and alleging that he belonged to the pro-Tinubu “City Boys” movement.

Responding on X, Davido denied belonging to any “City Boys” group and defended his friendship with Seyi Tinubu, saying their relationship predates the current administration. He added that he frequently complains to Seyi about issues affecting the country.

In the same response, the singer angrily told the critic, “GOD PUNISH UR GENERATION,” a remark that quickly went viral and generated widespread debate online.

Davido also reminded critics that he had previously faced backlash when he criticized the Nigerian government during interviews with foreign media outlets, arguing that his current comments were consistent with positions he has expressed in the past.

The exchange has reignited discussions about the role of celebrities in political discourse, with supporters praising Davido for speaking out on national issues while others questioned whether public figures should be more outspoken about governance and insecurity.
