Four people have been confirmed dead while 10 others sustained injuries following a road accident along the Ilesa–Akure Expressway at Omi Asoro Junction in Ilesa, Osun State.
According to the Osun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash occurred on Thursday night and involved a Toyota Hiace commercial bus and a Suzuki commercial mini-bus.
FRSC spokesperson Agnes Ogungbemi said three victims — two adult males and a female child — died instantly at the scene, while another passenger later died from injuries sustained in the accident.
The injured victims reportedly include seven adults and three children, who were rushed to hospital for treatment following the collision.
Eyewitnesses said the accident happened around 9 p.m. when a bus reportedly carrying phone accessories and electronic appliances collided with an intra-city mini-bus operating within the Ilesa metropolis.
The FRSC disclosed that the driver of the mini-bus did not possess a valid driver’s licence, while investigations into the full circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Wesley Guild Hospital morgue in Ilesa.
Road safety officials have urged motorists to avoid speeding, reckless night driving, and operating vehicles without valid licences, warning that violations of traffic regulations continue to contribute to fatal crashes on major highways.
