Former Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), further deepening the wave of defections hitting the opposition party.

Gwarzo confirmed his exit in a resignation letter dated May 1, 2026, addressed to the party chairman in his local government area, stating that his decision takes immediate effect.

In the letter, the former deputy governor said his move followed “recent political developments and the evolving political landscape,” adding that he took the decision after wide consultations with his supporters and associates.

His resignation is seen as part of a broader political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections, with reports indicating that he may align with emerging opposition blocs.
