Former Senator representing Adamawa North, Ishaku Abbo, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and officially joined the Labour Party, citing ongoing leadership crises within the party as his reason for leaving.
In a statement released on Sunday, Abbo said the internal disputes in the ADC at both national and state levels had created uncertainty for members, making it difficult to continue political activities under the platform. He pointed to unresolved legal battles and conflicting court rulings over the party’s leadership structure as key factors behind his decision.
The former lawmaker, who led the SIA Movement, said he could no longer operate in an atmosphere of instability ahead of the 2027 general elections. He also stated that his decision was made to allow him and his supporters to pursue their political ambitions under a more stable platform.
Abbo confirmed that he has now aligned with the Labour Party alongside his supporters and promised to work with the party as preparations begin for the next election cycle.
His defection adds to a growing wave of political realignments ahead of 2027, as politicians continue to shift between parties amid ongoing coalition talks and internal party disputes.
