Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has urged Arsenal F.C. to strengthen their squad with two major signings ahead of next season, naming Julián Álvarez as his preferred striker target.
Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Merson said Arsenal should prioritise signing a top-class centre forward and an additional midfielder during the summer transfer window.
“I would get a centre forward this summer, I would go for Julian Alvarez,” Merson said while discussing Arsenal’s transfer needs.
The former England international described the Atlético Madrid striker as one of the best attacking options available and believes he would significantly improve Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Merson also stressed that Arsenal still need reinforcement in midfield despite their strong performances this season.
Álvarez, who previously played for Manchester City F.C. before moving to Atlético Madrid, has continued to attract interest from several top European clubs due to his versatility, pressing ability, and goalscoring form.
Reports suggest Arsenal remain interested in adding another elite attacker even after recent investments in their frontline, as manager Mikel Arteta aims to build a squad capable of consistently challenging for major trophies.
The comments from Merson have sparked fresh debate among Arsenal supporters over whether the club should pursue another marquee striker signing this summer.
