Passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport has dropped sharply, falling by about 66% in March 2026, as escalating tensions involving Iran disrupted air travel across the Gulf region.
According to airport data, the decline was linked to regional conflict, airspace restrictions, and security disruptions that affected flight routes in and out of the United Arab Emirates during the period.
The downturn significantly impacted overall performance, with quarterly passenger traffic also falling by around 21% compared to the same period last year, as millions of travelers were affected by cancellations and rerouting.
Officials say the situation was triggered by wider geopolitical tensions involving Iran, which led to temporary airspace closures and heightened security concerns across the Middle East aviation corridor.
Despite the sharp decline, authorities at Dubai Airports say operations are gradually recovering as regional airspace stabilises and restrictions are lifted, with flight schedules being restored in phases.
