Police in Anambra State have arrested a driver accused of killing his employer, a Pentecostal bishop in Delta State, before fleeing with the victim’s Toyota Prado Jeep to Anambra in an attempt to sell it.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the suspect whose identity has not yet been disclosed was arrested alongside another man believed to be the intended buyer of the stolen vehicle in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Ikioye Orutugu, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect served as the bishop’s driver and domestic staff member before allegedly conspiring with other criminal elements still at large to murder the cleric in Asaba, Delta State.
Police said operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu launched an intelligence-led operation that tracked and intercepted the suspects while they were allegedly trying to dispose of the Prado Jeep. The vehicle has since been recovered.
The victim was identified as a bishop of the End-Reconciliation Ministry in Asaba. Authorities said investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang and determine the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
The police also urged residents to properly profile and verify domestic workers and drivers employed in their homes and businesses.
