Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has reduced the price of aviation fuel, also known as Jet A1, from N1,750 to N1,650 per litre in a move aimed at easing operational costs for airlines and stabilising fuel supply across Nigeria.

The refinery announced the price cut on Monday, describing it as part of broader efforts to support Nigeria’s aviation industry amid rising operating expenses and concerns over the sustainability of domestic flight operations.

According to the company, the intervention also includes a 30-day interest-free credit facility backed by bank guarantees for marketers and airline operators, alongside a transition from dollar-denominated pricing to a naira-based payment structure.

Industry stakeholders have repeatedly raised concerns over the rising cost of aviation fuel, which accounts for a major portion of airlines’ operational expenses. Earlier this year, domestic airline operators warned that soaring Jet A1 prices were threatening flight schedules and the survival of some carriers.

The latest reduction is expected to provide relief for airline operators by lowering fuel procurement costs, improving operational stability, and potentially helping to moderate airfare prices for passengers.

Analysts say the refinery’s decision could also strengthen confidence in local refining capacity and reduce dependence on imported aviation fuel. The Dangote Refinery has increasingly positioned itself as a key supplier of refined petroleum products across Nigeria and parts of Africa.

The refinery, located in Lekki, Lagos State, is regarded as the largest single-train refinery in the world and began refining operations in 2024.

The new Jet A1 pricing takes immediate effect.
