The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted several luxury vehicles allegedly stolen in Canada and smuggled into Nigeria through the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos.
According to Customs officials, the recovered vehicles included:
- A 2021 Rolls-Royce Dawn Convertible
- 2019 Lamborghini Huracán
- 2018 Lamborghini Aventador
- 2019 Mercedes-Benz G550
- 2023 Range Rover
- 2019 Lexus RX350
- 2026 Toyota Tundra.
The vehicles were reportedly traced to Canada after months of intelligence sharing between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), which tracked the stolen automobiles through international shipping routes before they surfaced in Nigeria.
Customs Area Controller of Tin Can Island Port, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, said one of the vehicles a Toyota Tacoma was hidden inside a container transporting other automobiles before officers intercepted the shipment.
According to Onyeka:
“What looked like a routine cargo movement quickly became an international criminal investigation.”
The recovered vehicles were later handed over to Canada’s Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Nasser Salihou, during an official ceremony at the port.
Customs said the operation reflects growing cooperation between Nigeria and Canada in tackling transnational organised crime, vehicle theft syndicates, and illicit cargo trafficking.
