The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has arrested a 71-year-old man in connection with a cocaine shipment worth about ₦2.35 billion, intercepted at a border post.
According to Customs officials, the suspect was taken into custody after officers discovered a large quantity of the illicit drug concealed in a consignment during a routine inspection.
The seizure is part of ongoing efforts by the agency to curb drug trafficking and smuggling across Nigeria’s borders, particularly at key entry points often used by international syndicates.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the trafficking network and determine the full extent of the operation.
The Customs Service reiterated its commitment to tightening border security and warned that age or status will not shield anyone involved in illegal drug activities.
