The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in the price of aviation fuel (Jet A1), fixing it at about ₦1,820 per litre, in what it says is part of efforts to improve transparency and stabilise supply in the aviation sector.

According to the refinery, the new pricing is aimed at easing pressure on airlines, which have been grappling with high operating costs due to expensive jet fuel. Industry operators have repeatedly raised concerns about fuel prices pushing up ticket fares and affecting flight operations.

The new rate is also said to be in line with regulatory guidance from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, which had earlier indicated that aviation fuel should trade within a certain price band depending on location and market conditions.

Despite the adjustment, marketers in some cases still sell above the advised range due to logistics and distribution costs, which has kept industry stakeholders cautious about how quickly the price cut will translate into lower fares.

The move comes as the refinery continues to position itself as a major supplier of refined petroleum products in Nigeria and across Africa, with increasing focus on domestic availability and market competition.
