President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Ibrahim Yusuf, 39, as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), making him one of the youngest individuals to head the examination body.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Presidency, which said the decision forms part of ongoing efforts to reposition key educational institutions and strengthen reforms within Nigeria’s tertiary admission system.
Professor Yusuf, an academic and technology policy expert, is expected to succeed Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose tenure as JAMB Registrar drew national attention for reforms in the conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and improvements in revenue remittance.
According to the Presidency, the new registrar’s appointment takes immediate effect and aligns with the administration’s push for innovation, transparency, and digital transformation across public institutions.
Before his appointment, Yusuf reportedly served in various academic and policy-related capacities, with experience in educational administration, digital systems, and research development.
The announcement has already generated reactions across the education sector, with many stakeholders describing the appointment as a major generational shift in the leadership of one of Nigeria’s most influential examination agencies.
JAMB remains responsible for conducting entrance examinations into tertiary institutions across Nigeria and coordinating admission processes for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
