A prominent Islamic cleric, Alfa Iliasu, has been killed following a violent attack at his residence in Ilesha-Baruba, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State. The incident has sparked grief and tension across the community. 


According to community sources, the attackers stormed the cleric’s home and assaulted him with a cutlass, inflicting severe injuries, particularly to his head. He was rushed for medical treatment but reportedly died from his wounds. 


Residents described Alfa Iliasu as a respected religious leader known for his Islamic teachings and influence in the area. His death has triggered widespread outrage among community members and religious leaders. 


Reports indicate that three suspects were allegedly involved in the attack. Following the incident, one suspect was reportedly lynched by an angry mob, another was arrested by security operatives, while a third suspect escaped. 


The killing comes amid growing security concerns in parts of Kwara State, particularly in Baruten and surrounding border communities, which have recently experienced attacks, kidnappings, and other violent incidents. 


Security agencies have commenced investigations into the murder, while residents have called for justice and stronger security measures to prevent further attacks in the area.
