A presidential aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled a detailed security blueprint for Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, proposing sweeping reforms to tackle insecurity, banditry, and terrorism.
The aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, presented the plan as part of his policy vision, saying Nigeria’s security crisis is deeply tied to its economic challenges and must be addressed alongside job creation and governance reforms.
He outlined several immediate actions he would take if elected, including:
- Designating armed criminal groups as terrorist organisations
- Prosecution of kidnappers and bandits under terrorism laws
- Creation of special terrorism courts for faster trials
- Freezing and confiscation of assets linked to criminal financing
- Ending ransom payments and negotiated amnesties
- Strengthening intelligence sharing among security agencies
- Reviving regional cooperation through the Multinational Joint Task Force
He also emphasised that insecurity fuels poverty and weak economic growth, warning that “Nigeria’s security crisis is not separate from the economy.”
The blueprint further includes:
- Police reform and improved training
- Modern surveillance and intelligence systems
- Economic recovery programmes for high-risk communities
- Youth-focused job creation to reduce recruitment into criminal groups
The ADC has recently been presenting policy frameworks as part of preparations for the 2027 elections, positioning itself as an alternative governing platform with a focus on security, economy, and institutional reform.
