Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran actress Oby Kechere, popularly known for her role as “Ms Koi Koi” in the hit film Aki na Ukwa.


According to reports from the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), the actress died on 27 April 2026 after battling a prolonged illness. 


The guild described her as a dedicated filmmaker and confirmed her passing in an official statement, noting her contributions to the growth of the Nigerian movie industry.


Oby Kechere, who joined Nollywood in the early 2000s, became widely recognised for her comedic and dramatic roles and later worked as an actress and director. 


Her death has sparked emotional reactions across the entertainment industry, with colleagues and fans paying tribute to her legacy and memorable performances.


She is remembered as one of the familiar faces of early Nollywood comedy films, especially her iconic “Ms Koi Koi” character that made her popular among audiences.
