The Accord Party has dismissed reports suggesting it may be deregistered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), insisting it remains a fully valid political party under Nigerian law.

In a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Omorogbe, the party described the claims as misleading and politically motivated. Accord said there is no legal basis for its deregistration, stressing that it continues to meet all constitutional requirements for party registration.

The party referenced provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which state that a political party can only lose its registration if it fails to win at least one seat in elections or meet minimum electoral performance benchmarks. Accord argued that it has satisfied these conditions through participation and victories in past elections, including councillorship wins in Jigawa State and a previously secured state assembly seat in Imo State before it was later nullified.

According to the party, these records show that it remains active and competitive in Nigeria’s political space. It also dismissed any ongoing legal or political pressure suggesting otherwise, saying such claims do not affect its official standing with INEC.

Accord maintained that it will continue to strengthen its structure and expand its political reach ahead of future elections, urging members and supporters to ignore rumours about deregistration.
