Member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, has recorded a sweeping victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Yagba Federal Constituency seat in Kogi State, winning across all 34 wards in the constituency.

The direct primary election, held ahead of the 2027 general elections, took place across Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopamuro Local Government Areas, with APC members turning out in large numbers to participate in the exercise.

Results from the primary showed overwhelming support for the incumbent lawmaker, who recently defected to the APC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Political observers described the outcome as a major consolidation of Abejide’s growing influence within Kogi West politics.

Speaking after the exercise, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, praised the conduct of party members and described the primary as peaceful, transparent, and credible. He stated that the exercise reflected the will of APC members across the constituency.

According to Fanwo, Abejide secured 892 votes in his ward while his challenger reportedly managed only two votes, a pattern that party officials said was repeated in many other wards across the constituency.

Party stakeholders attributed Abejide’s landslide victory to his grassroots popularity, constituency projects, and empowerment programmes, which they said have strengthened his support base over the years. Earlier endorsements by APC leaders in Mopamuro had also signaled strong backing for his return bid.

The primary election was largely peaceful despite earlier concerns raised by some aspirants over alleged imposition of candidates in parts of Kogi APC structures ahead of the exercise.

With the victory, Abejide has officially emerged as the APC candidate for the Yagba Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections, further strengthening his political standing in Kogi State.
