A lawyer has raised concerns over the detention of 62 Nigerians in Uganda, alleging that the suspects are being denied proper access to legal representation.

According to the claim, the Nigerians were arrested in Uganda under unclear circumstances and have since remained in custody without being granted consistent access to lawyers or fair legal procedures.

The lawyer further alleged that repeated attempts to secure visitation rights and formal communication with the detainees have been obstructed, raising concerns about possible violations of their fundamental human rights.

The case has sparked calls for urgent diplomatic intervention, with stakeholders urging Nigerian authorities and relevant embassies to step in and ensure that the affected citizens are granted due process under Ugandan law and international human rights standards.

So far, Ugandan authorities have not publicly responded to the allegations, while efforts are reportedly ongoing to clarify the circumstances surrounding the arrests and detention.

Human rights observers warn that prolonged denial of legal access could escalate tensions and further complicate diplomatic relations between both countries if not addressed promptly.
